  • qmc for animated door opening

What is the best settings for an animated door opening ? The camera is
still, but the door will open. Do I have to use qmc/qmc ? It is really slow.
I am rendering the door as a region through backburner.

Any help would be a life saver.

    Regards,
    Mike

    i suggest qmc/lc
usually qmc is good with 8 samples but you will need to work with qmc sampler to remove the noise.

enjoy make sure your lc is set pretty high and set to perframe calculation.
I usually use values around 800-1500 samples. Depending on the scene ofcourse.

I rendered out a single frame using qmc=default + lc=800 and it was
really noisy and really slow. What are your typical settings for the
qmc for primary and image sampler type ?

yeah dont expect it to be lightning fast.
I usually use qmc at 8, sometimes 16 samples but work my rqmc sampler to get noise threshold to be quite low. Like 0.01 in new vray and 0.002 or so in old vray.

              Thanks for the info.
Would I be better off using adaptive qmc image sampler over adaptive
subdivision for these settings ? Any speed/quality advantages to one
              or the other ?
Thanks for the time replying. I definately appreciate it.

A somewhat different approach that may still work (esp. on a deadline) is to render your scene once with the door open and once with the door closed and then simply blend the final images.

                Best regards,

                  HI
Vlado could u explain it better?
Do u mean to render the door open and then the frame closed with multiframe incremental, or add to current map and once saved using the calculated solution to render the frame in the middle?

                  thanks in advance

i usualy do it with ir/lc both on single mode
ir map set to medium 70/30 and lc at 600
                      qmc noise - 0.001
works for me and faster then qmc/lc

With your method maybe it would be useful to try and use Detail enhancement to help those little shadows details pop out...

I have also found this to be the fastest. Also gave very nice results.

What I finally had to do was to render the still. Then use a per pixel camera map. Then I lit the door and frame seperately and rendered the region with alpha and comped it in post. Actually worked pretty well.
No GI used on the door, just a couple of omni light with vray shadows.
