  • 'unknown error when loading the application'

'unknown error when loading the application' always appears when i´m trying to render a scene with backburner.

i think it has something to do with the license server, but i´m not sure.

does anyone found out a workaround?

the things according this problem in the online help file only work with the hardware dongle i gues..

See if you can start a copy of max on the machine with the problems - it may have config problems or be missing a file. It might mean transferring your license to it temporarily but if you physically open the file that causing the problems on that machine it may give you a more useful error message telling you whats missing.

we have had this in the past, it seems to fix itself over time.
Try what Joconnell mentioned as it might be something simplistic.

What version of backburner are you using?

it was a fresh max 8 installation. after reading the topics in this forum i removed the 1.5RC2 and installed the 1.47.03. and 1.5 again..

but then a new problem occured: the 1.5 installation routine told me that there are some files that can not be removed.

btw: max 8 is running properly, backburner 3.0 is installed, vray runs, but could not obtain a licence..

are you running a software dongle < cgauth > or a real one ?

make sure you check the license port on the other machines.
It should be set to 30303, not 30304.

what really bothers me is the fact that the same scene works if opened and produces silly errors when opened as backburner server...

i have a new computer and got my licence for it. now i have 2 licenses.

i created an new scene from scratch and render on the new computer. evth fine.
i open the same file on the old computer (updated to max8 1.50 RC2) an the scene renders fine.
now i send a renderjob from the new computer to the net and the old computer refused to render and produces this " unknown error blabla" while the new computer renders this network job just fine..

Is this DR or BB you are trying to do with the "old" PC ?

Have you set all the datas needed in the BB manager, before running the server ? Ports, etc.

                              Best regards,
