• D.R. Viz 2006/Vray 1.5

Hi there,

I'm trying to set up DR on viz 2006 sp1 (vray 1.5) but spawner always dies a couple of
seconds after starting it and it's always the same error, namely vraydummy.xml

Code:
0:  [2006/Oct/3|09:16:25]    ========================== Starting new session ==========================
1:  [2006/Oct/3|09:16:41]    Got this module name: C:\Program Files\Autodesk VIZ 2006\vrayspawner60.exe
2:  [2006/Oct/3|09:16:41]    Got this INI file name: C:\Program Files\Autodesk VIZ 2006\VRaySpawner.ini

10:  [2006/Oct/3|09:16:41]    *** ALERT! Error opening file "<C:\Program Files\Autodesk VIZ 2006\vraydummy60.xml" for reading

12:  [2006/Oct/3|09:16:41]    ========================== Ending session ==========================
I've created a new vraydummy60.max & vraydummy60.xml as per Matt English with
no luck, and I've also followed other suggestions on similar threads, but the
problem still isn't solved and I'm none the wiser.

Am I'm missing something?

Try reinstalling your VIZ and place it in a folder like
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VIZ 2006\
just let it install by default.

We remember that had some problems, which are due to VIZ somehow.

Best regards,

Hi Candelero

- Ja, I remember reading that thread, the funny thing is that
C:\Program Files\Autodesk VIZ 2006\ is the default location
for viz. Are you suggesting that I re-install it in a non-default
path (autdesk\viz2006)?

Thanks
William

This works for me on both 2006 and 2007.

well, yeah...it should...EXCEPT for one tiny detail. For some lame-ass reason, the VIZ 2007 install doesn't include the NETWORK subdirectory under the VIZ root. So, in order to get this working, you've simply got to create this directory.

I got it to work yesterday afternoon!!!

The problem was the vrayspawner.ini I had created. Following the install instructions I inserted the path between the <> brackets. After removing them, spawner fired up and started viz.

My working ini looks like this now:

[Directories]
AppName=C:\Program Files\Autodesk VIZ 2006\3dsviz.exe
@base2studios: ja, that was the tut I followed. Helpful, but I woundn't be able to say if it helped because of all the different things I tried.
