  • Distributed Rendering not Working - Max 9, VRay 1.5 RC3

This is following on from my last post:
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=17289
I've started a new topic because after further testing, I've realised that the issue has nothing to do with the combination of 64-bit and 32-bit machines. Hope this doesn't break a forum rule.

I cannot use distributed rendering with Max 9. I am running Max 9 and VRay 1.5 RC3 (without a dongle). The client machine starts okay, and the V-Ray messages window says

    connected to render host 172.31.1.58
    connected to render host 172.31.1.29
Using 2 hosts for distributed rendering

then, after setting up the scene is says

Server 172.31.1.58 Scene loaded: starting render.
    Server 172.311.58: Starting frame 725729
Server 172.31.1.29 Scene loaded: starting render.
    Server 172.311.29: Starting frame 1152123
warning: Render host unknown (172.31.1.5 not responding
warning: Render host unknown (172.31.1.29) not responding

Shouldn't the starting frame be frame 0 for both servers? And why, when they're not responding, are they suddenly unknown?

Here is the VRay log file:
    http://www.palmhousedesign.co.uk/stuff/vraylog.txt

Any help would be much appreciated.

I still have Max 8 installed on these machines along with VRay 1.5 RC3, and DR still works okay with that.

    Thanks all

    George

Try running the new BB manager on those PCs and set them.
Also make sure your PCs are identically installed (considering V-Ray) and the ports:
    30303 - software license
    30304 - hardware dongle

I think he´s referring to the new Backburner Manager which ships with max 9.

            ah, okay, thanks panthon.

What do I need to set? I never had to change backburner settings before with V-Ray DR, did I...?

              Try this:

Just run the manager on each slave and if the settings' window appear, just hit < OK >.

              Then try the DR.
And BTW, it may be good to have the BB 2007 installed on separate folder, so not to mix/mess up with the max8 BB 3.

Thanks for your time on this, Nikki.

okay, I've done that, it's made no difference.

                Any other ideas?

Yeah; in the System rollout of V-Ray, change the V-Ray log file to e.g. "c:\failed_log.txt"; save the scene and try to render with DR. After that, please send me to vlado@chaosgroup.com the file "c:\failed_log.txt" from one of the failed slaves, so that I can take a look at what may be wrong.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

                      hello Vlado,

Yep, it's a small bug that should be resolved with the next release; it concerns only mixed 32/64 DR.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

Hi Vlado, i have the same problem but it happens on a 64bit DR, no 32 nods.
I noticed that DRing a simple scene without maps make it works, as just as i load a bit complex scene, some texture etc, it doesn't work more; any news from a newer release? A workaround would be appreciated as well.

Yes ! I have some problems too with dr. It may start on every slave
but stop after a while. Sometime, just one stops and sometimes some
of them or all of them stop.

                            Very unpredictable and desepointed...
                            Great problem.

I wonder if it is related to this problem?

I'll test the new version of BB and get back to you.

<edit> That will be a negative.... No sign that it helps with this bug.
