    material editor problems and screen

I'm having hte same problems with the material edditor as well.

another thing that happens is the wireframe goes away on certain views like through the camera or when I selct the left view; it seems to work when I select right view, but it's dif every time. The only thing that shows are the vertices of the xyz axis.

is theis a video driver problem??

Most likely; try switching between OpenGL/DirectX and/or upgrade your video drivers.

Regarding xp64, I'm also not happy... Same issues with a relatively new hp printer, I got it working with the driver of a deskjet990c, meaning I can not select any of the advanced options of the photosmart printer...

The huffyuv and panasonic dv codec don't work.

My previous pc is useless for rendering since it's 32bit. (glad I didn't own a complete renderfarm yet).

Acrobat won't install the pdf printer.

Winzip needs a patch to show up in the right click menu in explorer.

Some other programs also don't show there menus either in rightcick menu (and there is no fix).

                Monitors have no xp64 drivers.

etc..... (=things I need to discover)

Btw I have the same problem with the material editor, I was blaming my graphics card already...

You don't happen to have an installer for the free huffyuv and panasonic codec that works on xp64? Would be great

I had a long chat with hp support about the printer driver, but there's nothing more they can do right now. I have to wait and hope they will ever make an xp64 driver.

I wish I could say the same as you!

I use Mainconcept encoder for DVD output, and there are heaps others out there that work on xp64

I don't know for codec or what so ever...

For a pdf printer try http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

                        Winzip : try http://www.7-zip.org/

Yeah the good thing was that panasonic dv is free

Huffyuv is a lossless compression codec, it creates files 4 times smaller than the real uncompressed format. It is also free and the fastest I was able to find. (even faster than commercial equivalents)

Even when I find something else, I still need those codecs since I have a lot of video created with these two, so i can't view them anymore.

                            off topic / video codecs

I find using obscure codecs is risky, we tend to stick to Quicktime anyways or Flash video since they are so widely available. Most important thing is that your client be able to open the files and you as well. Gotten caught to often using the next best codec......
                            Cheers

I use vegas for video editing. Since there is no plugin to directly render to flv, I need to render to something else first, and convert that to flv. I don't want to convert to another lossy codec at first and then convert this one to flv, that would degrade quality a lot. I also usually render my poject at full resolution to uncompressed avi, and then use virtual dub for resizing since it is so quick. Instead of uncompressed avi I used the huffyuv codec, which is very common (I came across this codec in any video tutorial or forum I visited). I could use uncompressed avi, but it creates huge files of course. But for now I have no other option.

Panasonic dv is also well known, it's just a dv codec, there are not that many around and the ones that do exist all seem to have their problems. Panasonic is a good compromise. Since my camcorder uses DV, I keep these vids in dv all the time untill the end, then I convert to something else depending on where the vid needs to go. Since I edit my original clips in virtual dub first (for filters that do not exist in vegas, like deshaking the footage - vids while skiing ), I select panasonic dv as output. I could use uncompressed avi here too, but since it is dv to begin with, and I will edit is as dv in vegas anyways, this is not such a good idea (especially for file size).

Just to say that these two codecs are not that obscure It simply isn't xp64 ready, like many other things it seems.

HuffyUV is great, we've used it for years and years.
Playback can also be ok with it surprisingly, especially compared to playing back an uncompressed AVI.
However, we've started to work with Uncompressed QuickTime using the animation codec, as we've found .mov is a lot more stable than .avi.

Sometimes projects would just crash when trying to render to .avi.... pain in the arse, but QuickTime seems a lot more stable.
