We are experiencing problems with staying connected with the VRay license servers. We are using VRay 1.5 (and Max 8-sp3) with the 3 dongles. Currently two people are using the dongles locally while the third dongle is being accessed through the network for the other 3 licenses. In each instance [local and network], we loose the license after a period of time. We have tried several things already to help narrow down the cause of the problem, but have run out of ideas. This includes:
- Forcing port 30304 to be open in the software firewall for all traffic on the subnet [I believe this is the correct port for the license server].
- Making McAfee anti-virus not scan anything in the Chaos/VRay directories
- Disabling McAfee Anti-virus.
- Disabling the software firewall.
- Running the license server as a service
- Disabling the service and running the license server via double clicking the exe file.
One instance that happened recently is that I was creating textures, but I hadn’t rendered anything. When I was almost done creating all the textures, I lost the license because all the sudden the material previews disappeared and it was all black. It also happens when we are doing test renders to check textures and lighting [i.e. after several test renders, the license will be lost]. I have noticed that when I look at the status of the license server [on all 3 servers], I never see licenses being “engaged” but do notice that some workstations are connected via the sessions list. Don’t know if that means anything.
Is there a time limit that the licenses can be used and then need to be refreshed? If so, can we extend that time limit somehow? If no, can there be a button within the render dialog box that “reconnects” to the server without restarting Max?
If you have any ideas of what could be causing this, please let me know. Thanks.
