  • DR problem with maps?

We seems to have a problem with the DR today here. Yesterday night everything was working fine. But today, we cannot render with the network for a reason we don't know. The network don't seems to see the maps that are at the same files as usual. We use Vray 1.5 SP1 with 2 dongles.

Every computers in the network see each other, see the files for the maps, etc.... We ping each one to confirm that it's ok. We start the network twice. The computers see the WIBU-KEY from Chaos Group( dongles ). But all we can do is use the computer that have the dongle. No network.

Did we do something wrong? What could have happen in less than 10 hours ( night time )from the moment everything was perfect and this morning.

we send the .log to Vlado. we wait his comments. Any clue someone?

if we do a ( check for missing files ) in the vray System. The network won't enter in the rendering.

It looks like the Vray do not see the maps or the network anymore ? Weird. Have you ever see something like that ?

i would resume in less words...

the slaves cannot load the textures.

They can see the files... but do not load them....

here's what vray log message said. when i check in vray settings '' check for missing files ''

server 192.168.2.6: missing maps found; aborting render.

All office slaves are like that today. We ping everything. and all computer see the files where the maps are located. Yesterday for the first time with 1.5 sp1 it was working really well. but 8 hours later.... no more textures in the DR.

I see a post that vlado reply and he said ( maybe permissions is bad )

i see another post that said '' Edit the .vrscene file with a text editor and change the path ''

          what does that mean ?

          thanks guys.

does it render with maps if you turn the check off?

Does it render locally with the check on?

yes it does render the map, but the network is no longer in use. So the renderings goes up to 10 X... Yuk.

we do DR since 14 months and first time we see that. ( we just apply 1.5sp1 yesterday too )...

                i ask a stupid question.

when i open the vray on the slaves. What do we do first.

                Open the vrl licence server

                Open the vray Spawner

                thanks...

well after a day of looking where the problem is, the deadline of a lot of project are off....

maps and textures are missing in the Distributed renderings. We start Vray on the slaves manually like always... all computers see each other. no firewall known, permission or something else known...

Any clue someone? if you think of a way to resolve this. do not hesitate to write....

                  thanks

network, 6 computers' 5 are windows xp 32 and the latest add is 64 bit xeon 5355. the first 12 hours of test were incredible with the latest computer... how come the slaves on all network do not see the directories... vray 1.5 sp1 2 dongles... mmmm weird.

It should work if you copy the maps to a local folder on all the slaves and the workstation to the same folder on all machines, c:\maps for instance. then change the paths in the file to c:/maps/...

excuse my bad english, but isn't it a waste of time. if we do it each time...if we forget to put the maps on one local computer and then launch the render and leave the office. next morning... euhhh i forget.

is it a way that vray 1.5 sp1 refused to look in a folder if ( i dont know i ask ) permissions are not good,,,,, is there any lines in the code that specified that.

Queswtion i see in some post < UNC path > what does that mean?

btw.. what is the most strange thing is that it was working very well 2 days ago... and now no more maps and textures....

                        My experience with 1.50 DR

It happen that we have a very small farm just 3 machine. After
installing 1.50 and trying DR with the machine we were having
problem starting at first. It seems that the DR wont start if it is
ran in the windows service background. So we have to stop that
and start it manually. After which it renders well ... however...

Next day returning to the office ... the DR did not behave itself
with the manual startup and we checked that the background
service was turned off. Then it happen when we plug in the dongle
then it decided "ok cool that's wat I needed" and so started rendering
... . Nonetheless it is still a PROBLEM big one in fact becos deadline
rely on it. DR spawner don't need a dongle does it? Or maybe I got
                        it wrong ...

Now we tot it was ok for 3 machines what if those farm have 100
machines that will be alot of work haha ( not trying to be funny ) it's
                        a bitter laugh.

Yes, but you mentioned the deadlines...

If spawner is running as a service it needs to run with full admin rights, see victor's post, and even then it can loose its connection to the drives. Best to run it as an exe.

UNC paths are "\\server_name\drive_share\my_maps\..." instead of "D:\my_maps\..."

It should not use up an actual workstation license but it does need to connect to the dongle to see how many DR Lic you have.
