  • servers at 50% cpu load

    Hi!

I noticed that when calculating an irradiance map i DR mode (might also be in local mode) my CPU load is around 50% both on my local machine and on my DR servers, why is that? I tried the "renderers.current.system_numThreads=2" but all that did was giving me more buckets I'm still around 50% CPU load.
    Any idea?

    regards
    /Tobias

Do you have proxy objects in scene, displacement, fur etc?

I have Vray Fur on a carpet, also I'm beginning to misstrust our network, but if the network is bad at least my local machine should crunch at 100% I think.

        Hello again!

It seems that as soon as the first buckets were made everyting runs at 100%, I guess there are some preparing to do first that only uses about 50% possibly due to a slow network, the actual irradiance calc. crunches away at 100%

Ah, good. Actually, it's probably because of the VRayFur. It is created on the fly, and the creation itself is not currently multithreaded (just the rendering).

as vlado was saying it has to do with displacement and fur

remove the fur during the GI precalculation to speed it up
if the fur is not "long" then the GI from the carpet will include the fur for the final rendering

                Thanks QuakeMarine1!
I hadn't thought about that, I'm hitting insane rendertimes here so I will try your way. 18 hours for one frame at 4134x2953 pixels, pirinted to poster size so the rendering must be perfect.
                Thanks all for your advice!
