  • onyx trees/max 9 64 bit/vray 1.5 SP1/ DR

In a scene I rendered using DR I noticed that some of the render node buckets completely ignored the onyx trees. I created a simple scene with just simple onyx trees with no bitmaps. When rendering, sometimes the various render nodes render the trees and sometimes not. What is going on? I knew it was a big mistake to upgrade to max9!!! Now all the problems are starting again!

What kind of geometry are the trees? If you turn on the "Check for missing files" option in the V-Ray system rollout, do you get any error messages for this from the slaves?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I'll try that. The trees are direct from ONYX using the tree storm plugin. I did not apply any textures at all.

just an idea you've probably covered, but do you have the onyx plugins and license file copied to all your render nodes plugins directory as well?

are you sure you have the same versions on all slaves? so no 1.5 and 1.5SP1 mixed and such ?
are you resources available to all pc's?

yep....all set up fine. On some nodes sometimes the trees render and sometimes they don't....it is not consistant?

Do you get the same problem if you collapse the trees to a mesh? I have with complex geometry that was only recently added to a file. It seems that some nodes hold onto some type of cache, and don't want to always render the latest geometry.

that is what I was about to try now figuring it will work, since I have no problems with objects. I once had this same problem with RPC's....which was fixed with a new build I think. I already installed the latest build for onyx. Collapsing to mesh is fine for now.....but for an animation and using the wind on the trees it will be no good.

judging by ur other post i d say the problem might most probably be related to ur network configuration, not to vray...?

What I do with Onyxtrees is select the full poly mode and then display them as boxes in Max 9 64 bit Vray 1.5sp1. Otherwise strange behaviour and crashes occur all the time.

Also make sur eit's not a scale issue. Maybe the rendernodes have different unit settings.

have you put vray_dr.cfg in every slave?.. was one of my problems...

UNC paths should not be an issue with Onyx trees. They are not linked to an external file. Once the tree is loaded, all the tree data is contained in the max file.
