  • Pre calc Animation; renders very dark shadows

    Hi

I have a feeling this will be a simple problem (I hope).

I am rendering an external scene following the traditional pre calc of the light cache and irradiance map. When I load the pre-pass maps the render produced very dark shadows, which are not there if I render in single frame mode.

    Any ideas would be appreciated?

    Can you show an image?

      examples

the first example is using the single mode and the next is when I use pre-calc maps, which is to dark. I can adjust this using colour mapping but its not right. I am sure I must be missing something in the workflow.

The second is like there is no pre-calced GI, so its either not saving/rendering properly or youve missed a checkbox.

Can you get a screenshot of your settings?

                irr map

I had a look at the irr map in the viewer and found nothing, so that means no GI was being made or calculated.

This is opp but when I rendered at every 10nth frame I generated no map, but at every 5nth frame its started making the map.

                Strange but its a start.

to tell the truth it looks as though GI is getting calculated since in the shadows it would be black if there was no GI info wouldn't it? what im really curious about is what i mentioned before about the sky being darker in the 2nd image than the 1st. whats up with that?

                    it gets stranger

No matter how I tweak the samples or their size I get this result. (ye I am resetting the map file)

Is it possible that the two images are with different gamma correction?

                      Best regards,

                          update

                          OK

I was loading the maps completely wrong, I have been running some tests and getting better results. Also I think my scene was courrpt because I merged it into a new scene and its behaving alot better.

                          Thanks all for your input.
