looks odd. Could be some object which is excluded from casting/recieving shadows?

      hello Morbid Angel

nope unfortunatelly, if u look closely u can see these artifacts in most corners...around collumns, above the fireplace, under the angled roof, around the windows....really strange

i have checked all the geometry, everything nice nice and all welded

thing is that i have not much time for close inspection as the deadline is near

just thinking if it is the light which is mounted in the pool with some heavy multipliers

try to lowere ur vraylights cutoff .
the lighting in this scene is strange u dont really know where the light is comming from.
the main saunlight is very weak, & the interior vraylight are much stronger,

so the side of ur colums facing the sun are darker that the side that is facing the interior, & this is causing some unreal shadows.

can it be because of some dirtmap?

Using LWF? If so, try setting your colour mapping to a gamma of 2.2, and then click "Don't affect colours (adaptation only)". This makes Vray take more samples in darker areas. Not sure if this is the issue in this case, but maybe give it a try.

Excellent stainless and stone textures btw.

khoross: yep it is strange indeed... will have to ditch that light i have in the swimming pool under water, its not affecting the scene well...it seem s to me its started happenning after ive place all those large vray light in the scene

clifton: thanks for the tip will give it a go, but isnt this more used for really dark scenes?

giraffe: no dirt maps r present in the scene

will have to work it out somehow as i have so many things planned with this interior ....

ive tried to use the higheds IRR setting as well ...no joy

Have you tried bumping up the shadow subs on the lights?

Yes, I usually only need to do that in scenes with dark shadow areas. Like I said, I'm not sure if that is causing the problem in your scene, because the problem usually manifests itself as noise in the shadow areas. In your scene the problem looks different... though it certainly does look like a sampling issue of some sort.

right guys, here a quick test with really high settings
                      aDMC 3/6
                      IRRmap high settings
                      LC 2000/0.001
                      sun set to invisible
only light in the scene is sun
all geometry correct, no overbright mats, no scene units ok

really would appreciate help on this one....drives me mad

Try the non-universal settings. They take a bit longer, but often give better results than tweaking image sampler:

AA = Adaptive DMC + Mitchell-Netravelli at default

IR (High 32/20)/Brute Force at 5 bounces, or IR (High 32/20)/LC default (faster option)

DMC Sampler: Global subdivs multiplier = 8

                            All other settings at default.
