We find out that the problem of missing textures/proxies if caused by our network drive.

The VraySpawner2009 service cannot access the drive letters.
We're using network drives instead of the unc network path in max.

      It works!!

I finally got it working as a service on my slaves.

In max there is a setting in the preferences to make max use/convert to UNC paths. I relocated my textures the normal way, and when I select the file, it automatically changes the location to use UNC, and they all work!!!

The only change you need to do if your network is using drive letters, is tick this box, and all new textures will be loaded correctly.

Vlado, I didnt think SP3 had any changes to DR, just was interested to know when its out!!??

      Thanks

Thanks for the Hint, but this dont realy helps us on existing projects.

When on, paths shown in the user interface for any files present on a mapped drive use Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format. When off, each path starts with the mapped drive letter (for example, w:\).

This check box is linked to the Convert file paths to UNCswitch on the Asset Tracking dialog > Paths menu. Toggling either one toggles both.

NoteThis switch affects only newly added paths. Toggling it has no effect on existing paths. For example, if you load an image file into a Bitmap map from a mapped drive with the switch on, turning it off does not change the file path to the mapped version.

if your starting new projects then your all set, but for old projects, you would need to bit the bullet and re-load. I just did 30 textures in 2 minutes, not very long!!!

We have heavy use of XRefObjects and XRefScenes.

Some of our projects got up to 20 scenes.
A no go for doing it by hand.

We're not shure till now what way to go. Maybe we'll have a script for that.

were the same, maybe not 20, but up to 10.

We make use of xref materials. I updated 15 materials jus now, and my 6 xref scenes all get updated too, some 30 buildings, all sharing the xref materials. But I can see where your coming from. I'm sure its a scriptable process.

I hope it works for you. Maybe do a test scene before changing everything over!

Changing the path's for the entire project with the Asset Tracking is quick and easy. To convert everything to the network path easily, just open the scene on a computer that is not the one where all the files are stored, open the asset tracking, under Paths - Highlight editable assets, then strip paths, then Resolve path to UNC location, or Make Path Absolute.

Xrefs I think appear in the Asset tracking too.

The XRefScenes and objects shurly listed in the assettacker but the content within the XRefscenes as materials, IES, Proxies and other nested XRefscenes have to be pathcorrected too.
