  • XRef render crash after SP2 upgrade

Possibly another classic from our bunker...

Since we recently upgraded to 1.50SP2 all of us here have experienced a strange issue when rendering via DR whilst using XRef scenes.

In short, the first prepass will be calculated as per normal, then the light cache will then flash as complete immediately afterwards rather than going through the usual calculation phase and all we get rendered is a small bucket in the top left corner. The weird thing is that for a while this workflow is solid and then it will just 'turn' and commit digital suicide. The only way we've been able to resolve this issue is to merge the XRef into the scene or to render completely locally.

Any ideas what the cause of this might be and thereon how to work around it?

We've had quite a few issues with XRefs and DR in recent months. Things to try:-

    1) Double check your cameras:- they may be corrupted - try making a new one to check.
    2) Are all your xrefs/materials/bitmaps etc using UNC pathnames? Check they are
    3) Check you are not using Vault or anything like that - uninstall it and see if it helps
    Kind Regards,

Will do. I'm sure point two is covered although I have noticed a 'camera FOV' warning pop up in the dialogue box. I seem to recall a post or topic on here that mentions this, I'll see if I can dig it out. AFAIK we have no instances of Vault on the system or Network.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...light=sp2+xref. Odd thing is there's no rhyme or reason for the cameras corrupting; it was fine first thing this morning and then a couple of hours later it died without any geometry added or referenced?
