  • refraction, glas ?

    Hello friends,

just today I realized a strange thing, that never happend to me before.

I do have a headlight from a car.

The headlight itself, is structed like to follwing (from outside to inside)

    - one glas layer outside
    - one glas layer inside
    - one more glas in front of an reflector
    - one reflector agian with a refraction glas material on it

To have full control of all the materials, I created for each object the same material, but like I said, I created 4 different materials so I have full control over the refraction values.

for some I want to have higher refraction, so I crank the output value up by puting a falloff map into the slot, and changing the output value to 1,4 or 2, what ever works best.

    problem:
wehne ever I add the last layer of teh glas, the outside gals layer, I loose totally the right view... the reflectors are not visible anymore, looks alos a bit liek a distortion...

I can't fix it with vray mats.. so what is causing that issue ?

thx a lot for every little hint,

what are the max depths set to? Maybe you are running out of bounces?

does your glass objects have a thickness or just flat? Try using shell modifier if it is just flat, it helped me out before...

agreed - put the max depth to something like 20 on each mat.

          hmm..

well, I do have already cranked up the max depth to 20, in refraction, as well as reflection.. didn't fix it...

there is actually thickness in teh geometry, even that didn't fix it...

          just weired...

Not sure if this will help, but try setting the cutoff value in the material options to 0. If that helps you can try very small values like .001 and go for the lowest you can get away with.
