Error rendering hair

I can't get this to work in 2010 Design using mr prim hairs. I get an unhandled exception every time unless I choose geometry or buffer for the hair type:

error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Broadcasting NOTIFY_RENDER_PREEVAL
Last marker is at .\src\vray.cpp, line 412: VRay::freeData(), clearing render settings.

I am using the MAX.vray preset and tip fade is also off.

I've attached the scene if it's any use...

Any ideas?

Well, the actual crash happened when the object motion blur properties are by default set to "By layer" and the motion blur is enabled for the default layer. So if you turn either of these off (i.e. have "By object" set for newly created objects, and motion blur turned off for that layer), it should render fine.
