    Hello all,

Im having some serious issues here with long render times. I was rendering out at 2800x1750 the scene is all vray materials only one has a slight relfection as well as the glass. All vray materials have the default values. Im under a tight time frame and for some reason this time my image is taking way to long longer then i have ever had. It estimated 15 hours it finally raeached the rendering of the image after 4 hours calculating LC and IR passess Some scene stats are 4 585 575 faces, 34 lights they are omni lights for lighting the inside of stores and one vray sun with vray sky and physical camera. I have used vralight material for some of the lighting as well for cove lights.

My system specs are dual Xeon 3.2 ghz 4 physical cores with 4 threads. windows xp pro with 3gb switch and 4 gigs of ram vray 1.5 sp2. Any help would be greatly apprecaited Ive played with settigns to speed it up but im at a total loss these settings i generally use but i would like to render higher res and faster. I would like to add some glossies in aswell but they take up so much time. Any help or guidance in my settings woudl be greatly appreciated.

I know this is alot to ask but ive also attached the scene file and textures if anyone had a moemnt to check and see how much ive really screwed up this time... im so at a loss with this i just dont know what to do ...

    Kind regards

If your light cache is taking ages I'd suspect that there's a modelling issue somewhere along the lines - there might be intersecting faces or bad geometry causing major issues. Also you can drop the min of your irmap far lower - it might be putting in lots of details in flat areas for no reason - drop it to -6. All the small scale detail will get captured by the -2 rate anyway. You can use use light cache for glossies too - you're rendering from print I assume?

        Joconnell,

Thanks for your response, yup im doing it for print :/

the geometry isnt that complex it was all modelled in AutoCAD and imported from DWG files. There are no intersecting faces i checked for that already...
ive uploaded more of my settings aswell. I was planning on using light cache for my glossies jsut wanted to get this faster before using glossies.

        Kind Regards

I will try to post an image as soon as i get one...

what i have noticed is that when its rendering it is taking a long time to render out on materials that are just blank white material with alot of sun on it...

another thign ive noticed is that it is also taking a long time on my granite texture. The texture itself is 2100px X 2100px but has lots of detail in it ... it seems to take a long time to render that texture...

update here is the image it took 1hr15mins to get only this far at 2200x1375

If you're importing from AutoCAD check your scene material list that there aren't any architectural materials in there. Lightcache really doesn't like them...

              Daniel,

thanks! First thing i always do is apply a blank white vray material and convert all materials to vray script just to avoid that and raytrace material errors :/

              thank you!

15 hours for that scene on that box doesn't seem too extreme to me.

                  Hi

i haven't looked at your scene yet but are you using displacement?
i will take a look, seems way to extreme to me for the image quality..

Hi Natty and ReRender thanks for your comments!

i dont get it with the image quality there is no way it should take that long. I just remoted into my machine at my office as i have it rendering again at a higher res and some higher settings and its now at 28 hours of rendering. Ive never run into this problem before. Im planning on upgrading my machine once one of the partners authorise the purchase and i want to upgrade to sp3 but right now our client has got us on a tight time frame. We have a client that wants renderings along with our design devlopement drawings and so the model is changing constantly as we produce the drawings and sending out images every 2 days.

So the boss's have me doing both the 3d and design work/co-orddination. although they tend to in the end dictate teh design completely :/ quiet a few things i dissagre with :\

thank you again for all your comments!

oh my max version is max design 2009
and no displament used at all.

                        errors

                        MATERIALS

vray light mat = 300 and 500 ..should be 30 with vray cam exposure on... that's really going to F*ck your scene up straight there .. your trying to cook your scene! you can see that on your test render, light leaks all over the place.. vray shouldnt have to deal with that! ..
vray glass needs to have affect shadows
incorrect glass IOR = 2.2 should be 1.56
RealWorld scale in SP2 would slow vray down considerably so map the old fashioned way ..
                        messy SUBmats

                        Model

cant seem to select your Roof data and it has no mat at all on it ? odd
but generally the model is ok.

ive looked at the scene in max 2010 email me if you would like the updated file. nathan@rendertime.co.uk
i haven't had much time to re light it properly as there is only a sun in the test render..

so to summarise its your super high and unnecessary values for the VrayLight Mat that was the problem

                          Hi

your right it shouldn't take that long, here is my test image, new lights, new vray settings and fixed errors. There are still some fundamental things that are not right but my bed is calling me ...

thank you natty!!! your a true pro... maybe one day i can achieve that

those time frames seem so much more reasonable!! im goign to go to the office on sunday and fix it.

As for the glass ior.. i know its way to high and not real but the partners always want to have high reflection levels

As for my roof its an xrefd file...
i was wondering what is messy with the sub mats? just wondering where im going wrong?

again thank you so much natty for your input and great help!
