  • VRay FB is not focused while rendering in max2010 design

Whenever I render in max2010 design, the VRay FrameBuffer is behind the 3ds max windows and toolbars. It is not possible to bring it back on top of the screen. Is this a known bug? And is there a workaround available?

I am having the same problem. The Vray frame buffer will not keep focus.

I'm using 3D Studio Design 2010 with latest hotfix, Vray 1.50.SP3a, 64 bit, Win XP

I have a dual monitor steup and the Vray frame buffer will not stay on top of any of the other dialog boxes like Render, Material Editor, Map browser, whatever. If I drag the frame buffer to the other monitor where the Max application is open , it disappears behind the Max window. This is making it very hard to work with!

I hope someone, maybe from Chaos, sees this thread and can offer a fix.

Can anyone else verify this problem?

Do you have the material editor open when it happens?

Make sure that the Material Editor is closed or does not contain any Arch & Design materials and it should be better.

Thank you for the reply. If I clear out the arch-design materials from the material editor then the Vray Frame Buffer holds focus correctly. Weird, but workable.

I guess there is no need to use the arch - design materials with Vray. Do I understand correctly that they are to be used with Mental Ray only?

The mr Arch & Design materials work with V-Ray, but it is better to use V-Ray materials.

Me too... very frustrating that I have to keep the material editor closed.

you understand that if you clear out all of the arch-design materials from the Material Editor, it works as before with no focus problem? Minor inconvenience vs. serious frustration.

This also occurred in Max 2009 while the composite map was open. I *think* it was fixed in SP3A because i haven't noticed it happening recently.

Another workaround is simply to move the frame buffer to a 2nd monitor (assuming most people use 2 monitors) where the 3ds Max program is not open, and the frame buffer will not disappear behind 3ds Max (since it's open in the 1st monitor)

If you use your second monitor to have the other dialog boxes open in this is still a problem. I have a dual monitor setup. One monitor has the main Max window, the other monitor has the command panel the Mat Editor, Render Setup, Map Browser and other dialogs depending on what I'm doing. The Frame buffer will not display on top of these unless the arch-design materials are cleared from the Material Editor or the Material Editor is closed.

Yep, those would get in the way.

We are reworking some portions of the VFB and we'll see if it fixes it. However I've noticed similar issues with max's own frame buffer and other dialogs also, so I don't have high hopes for it.
