  • Render slaves and saved IR/LC maps

I am rendering a scene where we have pre-calced out the IR/LC maps to be used for the final renders. Everything works fine until we send the frames to render; for an unknown reason the render slaves will not load the maps. We have tried using UNC paths, mapped drives, and even copying to IR/LC maps to the slaves themselves without remedy. We have tried both Backburner and Deadline but have not been able to resolve this issue.

Has anyone else come up against this issue before?

Do you see an error message in the V-Ray log file? If yes, what is it?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi Vlado,

initially we were getting missing irmap errors, so we copied them to each slave. The attached log does not indicate any missing maps errors yet the ir/lc does not get rendered.

Here is a link to the text file: vraylog

Agreed Lele; something is definitely not working. It loads fine on my local machine; and my textures work without a hitch; as do the rendered exrs. I am at a loss to explain why the irmaps fail to load.

May give a whirl to a centralized location, close to where you save the EXR output, and use unc paths.
May not work, but hey, it can't go any worse... (famous last words)

                Hey werticus,

our default setup uses mapped drives which the slaves can see/render to; usually it works without issue. When we ran into the irmap issue we tried UNC paths, and when that didn't work we copied the irmaps to the slaves, (in this case the C:/ drive), and tried that as well.

then perhaps they are not saving correctly in the first place. Can you look at the maps with the ir map viewer tool okay?

Happy to report that after re-installing Vray SP4 on the render slaves everything seems to be working properly. Thanks for the help everyone!
