  • HELP!!! weird samples in render

I do not know what this is. I have had this on the last two projects I have worked on.
In stills and animations I get an odd disco ball effect through out. I have never had this before.
It seems to be only showing on the metal material in this render. Click image for larger version

My guess is that you have a vray light material and thats causing the dots.

If you pop a vray wrapper on the material and turn off gernate GI should do the trick.

Or by object in the vray properties!

    Nice render by the way.

Yes, actually I just unchecked the reflections box under the material options and the dots go away. If I use the vray material wrapper like you suggest will I still get reflections but with no dots?

UPDATE: I just added the metal material to a vray wrapper material...and with the base material having the Trace reflection checked in the options roll out I still get the dots.

      How can I fix this?

Yes, this usually fixes it for me.

Did you try to lower the intensity of the vray light mat? I found that overbright vray lights cause dots.

I would suggest changing your irradiance map settings slightly. 80 is fine for the samples, but I think you need to make interpolation at least 80 too. I've found that interpolation needs to be greater than or equal to samples for artefact-free renderings

These dots happen usually because of reflective/refractive GI caustics (when a GI ray goes through glass or reflection and hits a very bright object). Turning off reflective/refractive GI caustics may help in that case.
