  • Irradiance -Animation(prepass) wierdness/bug?

I'm rendering an animation with both moving objects and a moving camera.
The camera moves throughout the whole sequence -80 frames
A kitchen drawer moves from frame 0-65

    My GI setup is:

    1.st pass:
primary -Irradiance map Animation (prepass) - use camera path
secondary -Light cache - single frame - use camera path

    2.nd pass:
    primary -Irradiance map Animation (animation)
    secondary -none

Weird thing is that everything looks peachy up until frame 65 when the drawer stops moving. After that the drawer looks like it was rendered without GI.

Any hints on how to solve this "mystery"?

It looks as though you are seeing the LC samples without any filtering.

I haven't tried to use the animation(prepass) methods, so I don't know if I can help out much.

      Must be a bug then.

I'm not sure what you mean by without any filtering.

Anyway. I tried rendering a few frames in one pass (see attatchment) -and the strange artifacts disappear. But this does not work for me either as it creates subtle flickering between the plates in the drawer.

So my conclusion must be that its a bug in the Irradiance Animation (prepass) / Animation (rendering) mode. Can you confirm that Vlado?

I would try increasing the LC & IRRAD map setting first as you need really high setting for this method to work well. It may just need higher settings!
I really doubt the Vray guys would have a bug so big... left unnoticed. [Vlado is about as meticulous a programmer as you will find anywhere, and it's usually us users making the mistakes not the software]

          Sorry for not being clear.

I did not inted to render the animation with the one pass approach I described in the latest post. That was just for clearifying that I only get the artifacts when the drawer stops moving in the Animation (prepass) / Animation (rendering) mode.

Anyway -I ended up divdiding the sequence into 2 parts

1: Frame 0-65 camera moves - and drawer moves. Using Animation (prepass) / Animation (rendering)
2: Frame 66-80 camera moves - no drawer motion- with "use camera path" ticked in both Light cache and Irradiance.

What still puzzles me is that I can't render the entire animation using Animation (prepass) / Animation (rendering). As soon as the drawer stops moving (frame 66-80) the renders go Fubar in Animation (prepass) / Animation (rendering) mode. And as a "bonus" the rendertime goes from 10-15 minutes pr frame to 2 hours pr frame when the drawer stops moving.
