Hey sorry for the lag but here it is....
Is it just impossible to get rid of this vray light plane (dark) bug using openCL for the time being-as of January 27th, 2011?

I've noticed that a vray light (even set to invisible) will also block reflections coming in from other vray lights such as a dome light with an HDRI. Not the end of the world but I do wish that it didn't do that...

Has this been fixed? I'm still getting a shadow from the light object in the gi pass.

The light is set to invisible, and that parking lot plane is excluded from the light. I even tried the trick of using a Vraycolor map in the light with the alpha set to 0.0 but I'm still seeing the shadow of the light object

I just tried this with every permutation of setttings/gpu/cpu but can't get that result (Vray 5), so maybe it is something else.
Does it still occur with only the light and the specific plane visible?
If it does, you could post just the light and plane and we'll see if it happens on others' machines

I'm just speculating without the scene, but it will happen in V-Ray 5 if you turn on "Occlude other lights". Making it just invisible shouldn't produce shadows.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Ah, the only parameter I didn't check

So yes, having that checked produces the shadow even with the light invisible/excluding stuff etc.

I figured it out, the parking lot material was using AO in the diffuse. I didn't realize the vraydirtmap calculates the shape of a light object.

Is there a way to exclude light objects in the vraydirtmap Exclude/Include dialog? I'm only seeing geo in the Scene Objects list

                Thanks for all your help!

The Include/Exclude lists are handled by 3ds Max and they don't allow lights, but you can workaround this limitation by adding the light in a group and add the group to the lists in VRayDirt.

Sorry for this off topic comment but just accessing this post makes Bitdefender go crazy with blocked connection attempts to a site called netfrag.org, specifically sorceress.netfrag.org
It is linked to one of the responders here, I believe it's Samuel Bubat (sorry if I am wrong but that is what it seems) and those are on the first page of this topic; so I just wondered if others are getting these alerts and whether I
can either safely ignore them or if they pose a threat. Thanks....probably just being over-cautious but you never know, as netfrag looks like a shady site for sure

I've just talked with our ITs - most probably it's a false positive and there is nothing to worry about
