  • VRay 2.0 beta domelight weirdness

Opening a vray 1.5 scene which is lit by an exr in a vray dome light in vray 2.0 beta and hitting render results in:

changing to a vraysun & sky in vray 2.0 beta gives a result that looks right at least.

    Any ideas?

    (happens on other scenes too)

        Peter,
I just tried to reproduce your problem.
The mapping options for HDRs (if you are using the VRayHDRi loader) have changed in 2.0.
If you switch to "spherical" mapping type that should work as expected.

Peter i have just opened an old 1.5 scene i have using a Dome Light light and one of your EXR's and its rendered fine.

          2011 and XP64

Added onto this..It rendered fine for the lighting but i must say the glass is completely different to how it was with Vray 1.5. Its as though the glass is now completely see through and looks completely different to the previous renders i did with 1.5..

I wonder if this has anything to do with using a colour correction mod ??

thanks guys, I just tried rendering my scene with the exr in the environment map slot instead, and it worked fine. Seems to be the vraylight that is causing the strange result.

            exr in env slot:

are there any vraylight settings that differ from vray 1.5 to vray 2.0? (I havent changed anything, just opened an old file and hit render)

hmmmm that is a bit odd.
There have been some changes to the DMC sampler.

What happens if you start the scene fresh with 2.0?

Interesting; Peter can you send me that scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com to see why is the difference?

                Best regards,

max2009 file on its way to you Vlado.

After the last test, I thought I'd try it with just a vraycolor instead of the exr, same result.

Hoping its something simple like me not having installed properly, although I have reinstalled many times and made sure no old versions were left in the folders.

ha! changing the photon emission radii from 100,150 to 10000,15000 in the vraylight options seems to fix it !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

thats weird...hows photon emissíon radius related to this ? ....not on vray 2.0 yet but this is strange

Sounds like your units/scene scale has changed

It should not be related of course... it's a bug - it was meant to be the dome light ray distance parameter, not the photon emission one
