  • vrayhdri wire rotation

Can anyone help me wire the z rotation of a vraydomelight to the horizontal rotation of it's own vrayhdri map? My feeble brain can't figure out what the expression should be, I just get silly results in the horizontal rotation no matter what I do!

    Thanks

EDIT: Sorry, this should probably be in the general section, I'm hoping its a me problem and not a vray problem.

Im pretty sure you need to wire the z rotations together as normal but use the degtorad(value) in the expression box. Is that right ??

ive tried all sort of various setups with this but could not do this.
rotating along Z axis is fine and converts to the map browser.
however shoudl you want to rotate along the X or Y axis.......that seems to be quite tricky to solve.

also using degtorad but no joy yet.

Could you create 3 sliders in the viewport and assign each of the axis to these instead..

              sorry....no its not a sarcasm...
i ve never done anything with sliders and i am too busy with finalizing a lot of projects b4 Christmas to give it a go learning it :-/

the question is wheather using sliders will not only rotate the VRAY DOME LIGHT + VRAYSUN RIG but the coresponding HDRI map in the material editor

Im not sure if this is exactly what you wanted but Ive attempted to wire a sun system together. There are 2 sliders that control horizontal and vertical rotation. There is a vray sun linked to the dome which would need to be positioned at the same location as the HDRI sun.

                dome_rotation_02.zip

Also, the HDRI texture horizontal and vertical rotations work with the slider. You need to manually refresh the hdri in the map slot to see the changes but it does work. For a render or animation it should render fine.

                  sorry for my ignorance

BTW thats a LOT for this, i will definitelly have a go at it once i have a little time to spare !

No problem. I hope it helps.

When you move the slider (dont forget to active "select and manipulate) to adjust the angles, the VrayHDRI map angles for horizontal and vertical do not show an update in real time, but that actually do change. So I was just saying, to see the change you need to close and open the material editor (or click on a different map and go back to the Vray HDRI map) to see the changed values.

couldnt open your file as I'm still on max2009, but I tried this again this morning, and mysteriously it worked as I thought it should in the first place, like this:

the vrayhdri rotation is already in degrees so you dont need the radtodeg thingy like with the max bitmap loader. When I was trying to get it to work on friday i just got silly values out, no idea why!

actually I didn't, it randomly breaks, so I had to switch back to the bitmap loader

(for some reason using vrayhdri also means that sometimes when using ctrl-g to hide geometry, and hitting render, it still renders with the geometry visible, and after cancelling the render the geometry is visible in the viewport again.)
