  • Erorr Message During Rendering

The scene I'm trying to render is an Exterior Scene quite complex and heavy with a lot of vegetation and other models.

Durint Light Cache calculation I receive this error message
"There isn't enough memory for the raytracer to build it's acceleration data structures. The render is being aborted"

Is there a way to prevent this avoiding to make lighter the scene?

    Thanks a lot.

    P.s.
    I'm working on Windows Xp 64bit sp2 24gb of Ram - 3dsmax 2011 - Vray 1.5 sp5

This message is printed out by the 3ds Max native raytracer. Do you have any raytrace materials or maps? Any Architectural materials?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

mmm... even if the scene is clean and well organized in layers and xref, it is quite complex, there are a lot of elements, I haven't applied any Architecturl Material or 3dsmax Standard Material 'cause I work only with vray, but maybe I've imported some external 3d model with these kind of material yet applied on it.

If this is the real problem, there is a global setting in some Preferences Window that I can use to isolate it?
For example a checkbox that recognized all 3dsmax native material on the scene and automatically applies a Vray Standard Material to avoid this problem (or something similar), or I have to switch to the manual pilot?

      P.s.
I'd like to add that the error message appears while Light Cache is calculating, and progress bar of the Light Cache stops and (on window task manager) I can see Ram usage to increase more and more until it is full and the error message appears.

If I disable under "Global Switches" the "Maps" checkbox there isn't any problem.

How can I find which is the map that could cause this problem?!

Check the V-Ray log file or the V-Ray messages window - V-Ray will try to print a warning for such unsupported materials. The other method would be to use the Material Explorer in 3ds Max 2011 and later - it will list all the scene maps and materials with their type.

          Best regards,

            Great, it works.
The Vray Log Messages window advices me a Green Warning about a "Map #XX" Raytrace that could give problems, once eliminated that map the problem has been solved.

This isn't the first time a message like that appears during my jobs but I have never had problem like this time, the rendering I'm working on is an exterior of three building, very large ground, and the 3d object which had the raytrace map was little like a pin, quite invisible on the final render...

Thank you very much Vlado for your support.
