Distributed rendering - Bitmaps / Proxies Missing in Slave buckets
From what I could find on the net, this error sometimes happens with mapped drives; no-one seemed to be able to find out know why. Do UNC path names work fine?
Hi Again, I've found the Log File, please see attached Files, the render and the log file from the slave machine. It appears it struggles to find the proxie files, which are located in the Same drive as always. and doesn't render the bitmaps.
Couldn't attach the log file for some reason, so below is a link to a pdf version
I've tried everything! - Only thing that works is copying all the files to the "maps" folder in the c drive of each max installation on each slave machine = Pain!
Zdravko has given us a solution that fixed it for us. See below.
disable VRaySpawner2011 as a windows service (Start>All Programs>ChaosGroup>V-Ray for 3ds Max >Distributed rendering>Administration>Remove V-Ray Spawner as a service then restart) and run it manually (Start>All Programs>ChaosGroup>V-Ray for 3ds Max >Distributed rendering>Launch VRay DR Spawner).
Then try to render again.
**Might be worth mentioning whilst using this worked, I also had the UNC activated, this doesn't require manually entering in each map location, it does it for you! plus it's a setting that get's remembered by Max, so you don't need to do it again once done.**
Check use UNC paths in max. Notice that UNC path settings doesnt work with vray proxies automatically so you have to do it manually through the Asset tracker. Use this in your workflow and you wont have any problems with missing bitmaps assuming that all your render slaves have the acces to the specified UNC path. This is also the case with saved GI maps or any .ies profiles you use. The problem happens because you run the spawner as a service under a user account that doesnt have UNC location mapped as a letter the same way your workstation does.
