  • Backburner renders are bright on main system but ok on render nodes

    Hi there,

I have my main system and 4 render nodes. The render nodes seem to be rendering fine but when I add the backburner server on my main system (as I normally do), the main system renders out much brighter renders. Normally that kind of thing happens if the network path to a texture is missing etc but I know that they are all shared as the nodes render correctly. Al the files are located on my main system and I have not had this problem before but for some reason now I am. It may have been since I updated to SP2 as I am not sure when this problem started. Has anyone else got this kind of problem or know of a solution ?

The strange this is that when I render a still frame on my main system it renders fine.
    Regards

can it be the gamma file settings? i would blow away your 3ds max profile, with the .ini etc and see if that helps.

I'll delete the file and see what happens but Im kind of thinking it may not be this since the main system renders fine when not using backburner.

Saying that, what file are you talking about...I cannot find any .ini file that has any gamma settings inside it..

im not too certain on the settings in the .ini file but i think in some odd case it can store wrong information about the gamma correction.
            Glad that worked.

I'm having this problem all of a sudden too. Not sure if the host machine or the nodes are "correct" but the host machine is definitely brighter than the nodes. Very odd. I deleted all .ini files on all machines, restarted the spawners, and then restarted all the boxes. No joy. Can't figure it out, but for now I'm just going to have to render on one machine to get the job moving!

(only one texture used in the file and it's path is UNC and not the issue).

I deleted the 3dsmax.ini file in: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20 12 - 64bit\enu and it worked for me. I only needed to do it on the main system not the render nodes.

I also made sure I had sp2 installed on all machines. Im a little scared to install the subscription advantage update again as it buggered up physx and a few other things for me.

I removed it on all machines when removing it from the main systems didn't solve it. I am running the subscription advantage pack though, but it's on all the machines and has been for a few weeks now without any issues.

Weird - I'm hoping it's specific to this file. I'll have to try some other scenes once this job is put to bed.

This problem has popped up again. I recently went back to backburner 2008.1.1 because the latest version just wasnt working much at all. So now my 4 render nodes render fine but the main system from where I send the job renders very dark...like double gamma. I tried deleting the 3dsmax.ini file again but it did not work this time. Any ideas what I can do now ?

look at it this way, the time you spent trying to fight with bb and deal with its issues will be the $ you could have spent on deadline. Its not that expensive and really worth it.

I think $185 per machine (which would cost: $925) is actually fairly expensive...

Well it all of course is in line with what the budget permits. But I tend to look at it this way: I can use blender to get the job done, its free. But I choose to use maya/max, yes they cost lots of money but they get the job done faster, more efficiently...you get my point.

In regards to the bb issue, I would try to copy the 3dsmax.ini from your workstation to the problematic computers and see if that fixes it. If it still exists, perhaps clean reinstall will solve it?
