Backburner has mostly been ok until I did the update to 2012 then I started having problems. I tried copying the 3dsmax.ini file across from one of the machines that works but that did not help. I don't think deadline would be any more efficient than backburner if I could sort this little problem out...which Im sure is only a matter of time...and it saves me a whole load of money

Max gamma 2.2. Affect color and material are both on. Input gamma 1.0, output gamma 2.2. Vray colour map settings have a gamma of 2.2 as well.
I also thought there was supposed to be something about saving the gamma preferences with the file (im sure there was in max 2011) but I cannot seem to find that in max 2012.

are you rendering into exrs? theoretically whats happening now is your master machine has output of 2.2 so it double inputs the gamma when it writes out the file where as the other machines probably have the output set to 1.0.Dmitry Vinnik

so in the case of a float image you do not need to set your output to 2.2 What if you set your 3ds max prefs to have gamma output to 1, does the problem go away?Dmitry Vinnik

If I set the gamma to 1.0 the main machine comes out very dark if I have "preserve RGB" on in aftereffects and the other machines render correctly...If I have "preserve RGB" off, the main computer renders are fine and the other render machines come out too light. There is still something not right with the main render machine. I may try and uninstall backburner and re-install...maybe max too. I thought deleting the 3dsmax.ini file would work as it did before but it isnt changing anything this time...very strange.

hi - sorry do dig up an old thread...but i've just set up my very first rendernode!
it's all working fine when using DR but i get the same issue as described here with my local machine renders appearing brighter when using backburner.
did you ever figure out a cause for this?
any advice appreciated!
Cheers,

I ended up re-installing max after uninstalling and deleting the entire folder. It did seem to sort the issue out. I think something went a bit pear shaped with the ini files inside the user folders. I would check the gamma settings inside max. There is a script that allows you to change the gamma output setting which is now deprecated in max 2014: http://www.cg-blog.com/index.php/201...10-max2014.htm
Are you using the latest backburner on all machines ?
