  • Vray Car Paint Shader speckles

    I'm using a bunch of AXYZ cars. I've converted the car paint materials to VrayCarPaintMtl. I've changed the flake mapping type to 'Triplanar from object XYZ' (not sure I should be doing that!).

    I now get large speckles all over my paint. Is it just a scaling issue? I'd hoped the VrayCarPaintMtl would just work 'out-of-the-box' so to speak.

    Any tips?

    Looks like a scaling issue. I don't think the map can work "out of the box" in that sense. You will need to tune the parameters to suit your object size.

      I have worked alot with vraycarpaint and you need to set the scale to like 0.005 or less.

        I see. I will give that a try. I had assumed (wrongly) that as it is a car paint shader, the flake size would be using some sort of world coordinates to scale itself appropriately to a car paint.

            This turned out to be problematic, so for the moment you will have to adjust the flakes scale by hand.

              Continuing this old thread, could you point me at the setting I need to change to stop the horrible speckle on the silver cars in this render. TBH, the red car paint is essentially the same, though I don't see speckle on there. The infrequency of my posts on car paint tells how rarely I look at them!
