  • Wormhole-like glass distortions

    Hi y'all!

I am rendering some glassy office buildings and have a very slight Bercon noise (size 4) in the bump of the glass material, with the value of the bump set to 1. Mostly, this looks OK (though I have yet to try it animated), but in the area indicated in my attached image, the glass seems very distorted. I can't be sure why this is happening, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions? Could it be that I am seeing panels of distorted glass through other panels of distorted glass?

if the geometry is from autocad, did you remember to clear smoothing groups for all glass objects?
    Kind Regards,

Try select the whole glass and explode in elements, sometimes helps when you import geometry from AutoCAD.

The geometry is a railclone object created from a polyobject created in Max. I will try clearing any smoothing groups from this polyobject and see what happens.

I tried removing all smoothing from the polyobject but no change.

          Any other ideas?

Do you have duplicate geometry/z fighting? I had some incredibly strange results once when I accidentally had 2 references of the building in the same scene.

have you tried setting the refraction IOR to 1,0? will get rid of distorted refractions, if that's the problem..

                Will give that a try.

EDIT: That seems to have worked. I've set IOR of the refraction to 1.01 (1.0 makes it look speckly in the material editor). Thanks Rivoli.

well glad it helped, and yes, 1.0 does look weird in the mat editor preview.. forgot to mention that. it should be working allright anyway when you render it, if I remember correctly.
