  • Problem With Glass & Mirrors

    Hello,

I am having a very hard time figuring this out. In the attached 2012 3ds max scene, I have it setup for a product style rendering against a white background. In the final image I want the white background, but in the alpha channel I want the shadows included, as is shown in the attached image. Everything so far is good. The problem is that the glass that is above the horizon line of the floor plane always displays black instead of the environment background, and the mirror always displays grey above the horizon line instead of white. Now I have tried changing a few settings and can correct this, but then the background changes or the alpha channel is no longer as I need it. In mental ray this type of render setup is really easy, but in vray it does seem as straight forward. Can anyone tell me what's missing?

    thx

I now have the glass figured out, but still have problems mainly with the mirror. I am lighting the scene with a vray dome light, and have an hdr assigned to it in order for the objects to have something to reflect. Even though the light is set to invisible, the hdr map is showing in the edges of the glass and the surface of the mirror. Apparently there is no way to tell it not to show up in these. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

    thx

I disabled reflections on the dome light, put the hdri map in the global reflections & refraction slot on vray's environment rollout, then on the mirror material itself I assigned a white color map to it's environment slot.
