  • Glossy reflection bug (?)

    DMC 1-100 produces visible polygon edges in glossy reflections, at least in some situations. DMC 1-4 no problems (at first... see next post).

    Both renders have color threshold 0,005. Metal material has 8 Reflection samples.

    I attached the test scene. The lower object is just a torus and the top one is a bended box.

    3ds max 2013
    VRay 2.30.01

    Why am I posting this? Well, we've had some problems with this before.. especially with glossy reflections that have anisotropy. In this example anisotropy didn't seem to affect the error.

    Adding heavy bump (20) seems to reproduce the problem with DMC 1-4 also.

      Have you tried turning on the "Fix dark glossy edges" option in the VRayMtl BRDF options?

        That seems to fix it almost fully. There is only a hint of the polygon structure left, which is very manageable. Thank you very much, vlado!

          Well... using bump still seems to make the polydon edges visible.
