  • "use irradiance map" tickbox and unexpected behaviour.

PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD I WAS BEING A MUPPET.

i often use the "use irradiance map" tickbox in vray materials to do per-frame gi on small moving objects in my scene (people/cars/doors etc)

    and it works well..

however in this particular scenario i have a door that has the same beige material as the surrounding walls.

ive noticed that the door renders much darker than the surrounding walls.

im using imap/lightcache for the whole scene.

my understanding is that the "use irradiance map" tickbox basically forces the objects with that material to use brute force for their primary bounces, and i can say with some certainty that this is the case, as ive used it for this purpose many times.

what i dont understand is why it should lead to darker gi than the elements with the irradiance map on?

they (imap and bf) are both taking their lighting values from the same lightcache, and i dont have any funny multipliers on any of the geometry.

please help!! is this a bug?

could it be because i have "store with irradiance map" turned on for many of the lights? if so, it would be extremely helpful to correct this behaviour so that you still get a contribution from those lights to the objects with "use irradiance map" unticked. its a right PITA if i have to turn off "store with irradiance map" since this literally increases the rendertime by a factor of 6.

actually, very odd, as you can see from the attachment (and ive increased the recieve gi multiplier for the door to 2.0 to compensate fro the darker gi, but its still not quite right)

there are 3 max ies lights in the cieling.

note, the door doesnt seem to be receiving the direct lighting from the ies above it. this light, as it is a standard max ies, -doesnt- have "store with irradiance map" enabled.

      what gives? heeelp!!

        Hi,
It looks like the door is excluded from the lights above. Did you check the Exclude/Include parameters of the lights.
Also will be helpful if you post here a stripped down version of the scene.
