The 2-sided material - real life study vs the rendered version
The option is more for paper (which was the original topic of discussion for this thread). I'm not sure it is that useful for tree leaves as it does make them darker.
I still struggle with leaves though, in particular getting a decent translucency effect while maintaining reflections on the top side of the leaf. Anyone have any tips?
Grant Warwick's new leaves shader is way better than anything I've used before. He doesn't seem to by using any particular tricks aside from using a separate skydome with a blue sky (no sun spot I think) to boost "GI" but surely with the new reflection contribution control you could perhaps boost the reflection that way. That could of course just kill the translucency anyway.
He also uses a bright cyan tinted reflection map to give the appearance of a stronger reflection (it appears to be a more saturated reflection).
