  • strange pink problem...

has anyone else come across this issue?

the render appears to be fine on the LC pass, but then turns out pink in the IRmap pass...

it's a revit model imported as fbx into max design 2012, with a mixture of revit and vray materials.
    i'm using vray 2.30.01

scene is lit externally with vray sun + sky and has a few standard max spots internally.

if i do a region render the scene renders normally.
also, moving the camera slightly changes the 'pinkness'

I had a similar issue a while ago.

If I remember I think it was a bugged material causing the problem with the IR map

Try rendering it with a GLOBAL OVERRIDE material of white to see if it's the material causing the problem. That should at least let you know if it is a material causing the issues or not.

    Hope this helps

Do you get any warnings in the V-Ray messages window?

      Best regards,

thanks, getting quite a lot of "overbright or invalid color" warnings
could that be to do with using vray sun and sky with standard cameras and vray exposure control?

i'll have a go with the override material and see what i get.

grey override material gives no errors so almost certainly something to do with a material somewhere in the scene.

it's really weird - if i move the camera just a tiny bit and re-render, the problem goes away. but then if i hit render again on the same view without moving the camera it happens again?!

sometimes the entire scene get flooded with pink / blue / purple light, other times it's as if there's a strong light source somewhere in the scene that's on that just illuminates a small part of the render.

hope i don't need to go through all the materials one by one as there are loads.

i'll try converting all materials to vray mats and see what happens.

In that case it would be best to send the scene, or a part of it, to vray@chaosgroup.com - our support guys will help you out.

thought i had the solution but the hunt continues...

i still think it must be a material problem - i've tried using the vray scene converter but it doesn't convert the autodesk materials that have imported with the revit model.

is there a way to convert these materials to vray materials?

You can probably use this: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/sc...rial-converter

ok. i think i've isolated the problem to the multimaterial applied to the lamp model in the linked scene - possibly the noise map on the glass...

                        Hi,
The "Multimat_73" material in your scene has "Autodesk Generic" material and "Autodesk Noise" map applied, which both are Mental ray. They can often produce errors ( Overbright) when you render them with V-Ray.
A solution is the Mental ray material/shader to be replaced with a V-Ray one.
                        Hopefully this will help.
