  • V-Ray Sun causes weird shadow glowing

I'm having an issue where I've added a V-Ray sun to make light stream onto the floor, but in the process, one of the piece of furniture has this weird glowing effect. I've read that it might have to do with irradiance map settings, but am unsure where to start. I've attached a couple of images.

    Thanks.

It looks like your vray log window is showing quite a few errors (in green)
See what they say. Looks like a possible incompatible material...

Yes. 483 warnings to be exact. But I think that's a whole different issue. I have 5-6 missing materials (unused) that I can't seem to figure out how to delete, even from the Asset Tracking panel. I changed the path for them to point to a dummy jpg file. I don't think it's effecting anything though...? The main issue for me is the glowing phenomenon with V-Ray Sun. Any ideas?

Its the architectural materials that are causing the issue.
Run the VRay scene converter or use a global override material and see what that does

Not sure what that is? I ran a VRayMtl Converter v2.5 which said that it successfully converted 105 materials to V-Ray, but I'm still seeing the same 483 warnings!?

If you rick click in your viewport you will get a vray scene convertor option.
To try rendering with a global material override you do that in the "global switches"

I set the global override to VR Dirt and ran it. Still all the errors. I then ran the Scene Convertor option. Still all the errors. I tried resetting my Material Editor too as well as "Clean MultiMaterial" (which a lot of these rouge Architectural materials are). Unfortunately, the file that I got from the client had all of these missing materials in it. Internal polys like wooden dowels or screws, or other hardware. It would take forever to go in and delete each one. The thing is that I can see all 483 Scene materials in the Slate editor, but with no way to delete them.

Still not sure what all that has to do with the glow issue.

              Thanks for your help!

The glow is not present if I use RT. That's odd I think....

Most probably is a LC issue, try to turn on retrace threshold with "0.1" for an example

Retrace Threshold was set to 1.0, so I tried .1. No difference unfortunately...

At this point, it probably wouldn't help since I've been actively working on the project. I "fixed" the issue by making the back panel of the piece of furniture, black. But then I decided to not use V-Ray sun since I couldn't seem to control it to to nice streaming light (I'm just learning). Once I'm done with the project, I'll try to repeat the issue I was having and send over the scene. It's 33mb. Where would I send it?

On a related topic, I've attached a photo of a weird reflection issue that I'm getting with a material. I'm sure it's a render setting, but I wouldn't know where to begin on it. Any ideas?

                              Hi,
You can send an example scene to: vray@chaosgroup.com when you are ready and we will look into it.
Don't forget to specify this thread in the mail.

Do you use subpixel mapping option for the Highlight issue?
