  • Object Matte shadow/material wrapper priority

    Hi,

I just discovered, after a while scratching my head, that the MaterialWrapper has priority over Object matte properties.

I.e. I set the objects properties to be matte shadow, but the material applied to the object is in a materialwrapper because of colour bleed and changes to the GI amounts. The materialWrapper did not have the matte properties changed.

Can this be changed, or is there a reason for this? We might want to make GI override changes in the material and still use the object properties. An example would be traffic rendered as a pass in a MS environment - select all traffic, change MS settings, but if some have materialwrapper's they will ignore it.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi,

Yes, the settings from the VRayMtlWrapper override those from the Object settings, but why don't you use GI surface ID from the Object settings instead?

Thanks Tashko, not seen that setting, but will review on spot3d.

I am still unsure that the current priority is the right way round, would welcome further feedback on why this is the case, or other uses how dont want it changed?

"GI surface ID - this number can be used to prevent the blending of light cache samples across different surfaces. If two objects have different GI surface IDs, the light cache samples of the two objects will not be blended. This can be useful to prevent light leaks between objects of vastly different illumination."

It might be just the old Monday morning head not in gear issue, but I have no idea why this would help?

          Hi,

Ignore my last post, it was not in a big help.
V-Ray Material Wrapper will always override the Matte options from the Object Properties window. It has some advantages like easy select/assign by material, better control, ability to replace it with global override material e.t.c.
Probably for this case you can try to use Override material and place Material Wrapper to the GI slot (make your settings to prevent color bleed and GI amounts).
With this approach matte object settings form Object Properties window will work.
          Hope this helps!
