  • Issues with SquidNet

So, after having issues with Backburner crashing 3dsMax upon hitting the submit button (repeatedly, didn't matter what scene or contents), I thought I'd look into some other farm management solutions. I've loaded up a demo of SquidNet, and it seems promising, but I'm having an issue with it too. I create a new render job (in Squidnet) and submit it to the farm, however according to the log, as soon as Vray loads up the job errors out. "An unexpected exception has occurred in the network renderer and it is terminating." I'm testing this both on my local machine and on a slave located in the same subnet as well. Same result. I'll post the full log from SquidNet below. The Vraylog.txt file shows nothing (pasted below as well). I'm curious if you guys at ChaosGroup have tested out SquidNet at all and if you know why it may not be working? One thing I have noticed, and I will be mentioning this to the guys at Squidnet, is that in the 3dsmax CLI command, the output filename has an added "\" between the path and the filename. I don't see a way for me to get around that from the Squidnet interface. But I'm also somewhat doubtful that's what's causing the crash. Anyway, here is the data from the logs. Any help would be appreciated!

Just wondering.......have you tried the "too insane and stupid to be true" trick of disabling the ribbon on the slaves? That fixed my issues that had been plaguing me with BB. Not tried Squidnet, but im guessing this is a Autodesk Bug killing the render regardless of management software.

We tested SquidNet in our environment.
The error that you get is most probably due to the 3ds Max installation location. Which in your case is in D:\3ds Max 2012.
You may get an error, if 3ds max is not installed in the same directory on the nodes and the Peers are not set correctly.
Could you please advise how are your 3ds max templates saved for Peers and Clients in SquidNet.

Another way to test the issue is to install 3ds max and V-Ray on the default location.
