  • Reading from GI solution (IM Maps) is too slow.

We have a scene which is being rendered in about 4-5 minutes per frame when rendered in "Single frame" mode (GI being calculated for every frame, IM+LC).
Switching to "Animation (Rendering)" mode slows the render to above 15 minutes per frame.

We have "Interp. frames" set to 2. So 5 maps are being interpolated for every render frame. This seems to be the cause for the slow down. Unfortunately this is necessary to avoid animation flickering.

Setting the "Sample lookup" to "Overlapping" speeds everything up greatly, but the render is a mess (Black splotches everywhere).

What can we do to optimize this setup?

    Hi,

Is it possible to send us an example scene - support@chaosgroup.com

try dropping the "interp. samples down. default is 20 iirc, and with animation mode you can get away with a lower number, and this speeds things up quite a bit. however if you go too low youll get splotchies as always. i find spending a bit more time doing a higher hsph. subdivs set of imaps, so the splotches are less evident in the source maps, then using a lower interp. samples setting , is the best way to use animation mode.
