  • V-Ray 3.0 crashes my menubar when opening 3dsmax design 2014

    I have installed 3dsmax design 2014 64Bit and SP3. After having installed V-Ray 3.0 my 3dsmax menus don't appear on software startup. Instead it says "-- Unknown system exception".

    The MAXScript Listener has logged this message:

    -- Error occurred in registerVRayMenus(); filename: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014\scripts\startup\vrayutils.ms; position: 85692; line: 2780
    -- Frame:

    -- called in updateVRayMenus(); filename: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014\scripts\startup\vrayutils.ms; position: 85902; line: 2791
    -- Frame:

    >> MAXScript Auto-load Script Error - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014\scripts\startup\vrayinstall.ms Exception:
    -- Unknown system exception <<

    Pls could you provide help with this problem? My 3dsmax isn't usable any more, because I have no menubars!
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Hello Lars,
    We are trying to replicate the problem here. Can You tell me is this error continuing to appear on consecutive attempts to start 3ds Max Design?

    In general the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014\scripts\startup\vrayinstall.ms" script tries to register V-Ray things in the standard menus and is deleted after the first run, so if it continues to fail You may just remove it from it's current location.

    Best regards,

      Hi Alexander,

      thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Unfortunately in the meantime I had exported my license, completely erased 3dsmax (including Users/App Data/Local + Roaming) and any other file related to 3dsmax. After restarting the system and reinstalling 3dsmax everything runs smoothly now. So maybe it was due to having installed SP3 after having installed V-Ray 3.0. Or it was related to a hairfarm install I did the same day... Anyway I couldn't try your suggest, because I had to get it running again quickly

      Thanks anyway for your help! Much appreciated!
      Lars
