After making a plane a matte object and setting alpha contribution to -1, affect shadow and alpha on. The irradiance map slows right down when calculating where the object meets the matte floor. Using V-Ray 3.0. I currently have the matte object set tyo not affect reflection or refraction but even turning this back on slows it down even more.
