  • Long (scene) load times and long unload times at render end

I have a problem that a scene which was working fine yesterday is now taking 10 mins to load, and 10 mins to come back to max after rendering.
It is not too big a scene, only 70mb in size. Fairly lightweight scene so far. A lot of lights that are instances... no plants or anything yet.

DR slaves are working fine, rendering fine, loading the scene fast.

It is max 2014 vray2 (.4.04) and the problem seemed to start when i installed SP5.

So I went back to SP3 but the problem persisted.
So I deleted all the proxies I had added to the scene to see if they caused it (which is the only change made to the scene that day.) but it did not fix it.

Just tested network speeds and they seem fast as ever to read (110mbs) and write (90mbs) files. (where the scene and textures are stored)

It is possible that it is windows related? I installed windows updates:

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - March 2014 (KB890830)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2830477)

    Any ideas?

Anyone else having the issue suddenly after todays windows updates? or SP5 for 2014?

It would be good if you can also send the scene to vray@chaosgroup.com just to confirm if it really has something to do with the 3ds Max update.

    Best regards,

              I have similar problems.
For me it is a nitrous problem
On 2014 with nitrous, my scene is taking about 45 minutes to open ( size about 400mb) and after a render the vray frame buffer always freezes ( between 20 and 30 seconds)
With direct 3d, 1 minute to open and no freeze at all after a render.
I have two xeon with 48 gigs of ram and a quadro 4000.
it is very strange but now i will stay with direct 3d despite its limitations.

I tried removing all textures from view and reloading in Nitrous but it did not fix it. Nitrous is 2x faster to work in vs d3d, so i would like to fix the problem

That's a huge bug, then. Have you posted this on the AREA and filled out a defect report for AD?

                      hi,

Nobody else encounter problems loading with proxy in 3dsmax 2014 sp5 under nitrous ?
with only polygons, everything is ok but when i try to load vrayproxy(box mode !), loading becomes huge !
The fastest way to work for me is under direct 3D ( but it is not very efficient with big scene)
I try a lot of things for but for now without success

                      thank you

                      M

It is very well-known Autodesk bad update policy.
Once you have a somehow working stable version, do not jump on a new pack, let other be the guinea pig!

We are also having similar problems in our office. But what is strange is that is only with some workstations. We are all using the same MAX, same Vray, we all have the same video cards with the same Nvidia drivers. (Geforce GTX 570 - Driver 335.23)

We have installed Max 2014 SP5 and it has not made any difference. We had the same problems with SP3.

I am going to do some more testing with different Nvida drivers and I will post the results if they solve anything.

                            Interesting thread.
I have noticed on a few scenes that things are slow to load and unload with proxies when they are displayed as preview so I have been turning them to "point" and things are nice and quick.
