  • Never ending light cache calculation

    Hello there,
I have a scene that has 10 animated cameras in it and 9 animations have calculated the GI and rendered frames correctly.
There is 1 camera in which the light cache never finishes calculating. It gets to the end of the calculation and sits there using 1 CPU core until I cancel it.
I can't share anything to do with this job due to a very heavy NDA but any ideas would be welcome.

I am using max 2014 and the 3.00.03 official build.

Another thing I have noticed is that it gets to the end of the calculation and then the progress bar jumps back to half way and then sits there using 1 core.

do you render the LC visible or invisible in VFB? I mean "show LC calculation"
Sometimes we get this and if we render it invisible, its OK.
Also make sure youre not maxing out on memory on that particular machine.

This is completely fixed in 3.00.05 but it is not on the website just yet; you can email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com for an updated build.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

            Thanks Vlado,
Is it in the nightly downloads area?

Also if I create the light cache in 3.00.05 will it render ok on 3.00.03 machines?

It is in the nightlies, yes. Yes, you can use the light cache, but the error could happen during final rendering as well.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Ok in that case, turn off "retrace" for the light cache for the final rendering, just in case.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

                    Ok.
I don't use retrace on light cache. So hopefully it is ok
