  • Progressive rendering issue

    I have a strange issue with progressive rendering that keeps popping up. I've rendered out about 50% of the animation using this method (using DR too) but I've come to a point in the animation where objects are animated slicing (not sure if this is the problem) and the render just sits there doing nothing. I've checked the system performance and 3dsmax is at 1%. Almost like it's on pause. None of the DR machines are working either. If I stop the render and start from the same frame the render starts working fine. Then it will do the same thing on a frame further down the line.

    Just a quick update. Max has crashed twice in the last 20 mins whilst trying to render this animation. Something I do not normally get. It started when I upgraded to vray 3 and started using progressive method.

    Update: Another crash on the same frame after restarting max. I'll try another method of rendering to see if it does the same thing. Very frustrating that this is happening !

      Hmm. Max seems to crash even when using Adaptive. I've not had this happen in a long time in max when using vray 2.4.

        Keeps crashing. This is the error message I am getting (from vray log):

        Code:
        [2014/May/13|15:17:57] error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region (944,640)-(960,656)
        Last marker is at ./src/globillummap.cpp, line 1563: GlobalIllumMap::buildLightMap() {1}

          I had a 3dsmax skylight in the scene which I just read can cause crashes. Deleted now but it still crashed.

          I then turned off vray elements as I noticed it got to the end of the frame and crashed then. Works fine without elements on. Turn it back on and it crashes again....

            That's a good pointer; can you tell me what kind of elements you have in the scene?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

                I can't reproduce it here, can you send me a simplified version of the scene that contains the issue ? (peter.matanov@chaosgroup.com)
                If it was that easy, it would have already been done

                  No problem. I'm sending the file now via HIGHTAIL.
