  • V-Ray Clipper

I'm trying to use the clipper on some machinery to show the internal workings for an animation. The problem Im having at the moment is when animating the clipper to cut away some of the objects, when the clipper is moving its not capping the holes (I have a separate material assigned to the clipper). Ive tried also using the "use object material" but its still not capping the holes. Only when it stops moving does it correctly display the cut away by capping the holes. Just wondering if this is a known bug and if it might be fixed any time soon? Using 3dsmax 2014 SP5 and V-Ray 3.00.07

I have also noticed that after working on my file for a while and after several test renders the clipper can start producing strange artifacts but if I save and restart max it clears up...
    Cheers,

    Hello

What color are the uncapped parts - black, environment or something else ?
Is it possible that while moving the clipper cuts too many objects and the ray reaches max transparency level (50 by default) ? You could try increasing the max transp. levels (Global switches(Advanced)) and see if this changes anything.

I tried to reproduce the problem but so far everything works as expected. If the transparency levels are not the problem - could you provide a sample scene with this problem ?

The uncapped parts have no colour, its as if there are no faces or the normals have flipped. same effect as if you use the slice modifier and dont cap the holes. Ill see if I can modify the file to send it to you but have to clear it with legal first...

OK in the mean time Ive cranked the max transparency to 1000 but its still acting up. Ill try to post an example. In the render the top one is taken as the clipper is moving through the gear and the bottom one is after the clipper has stopped and the cut away material is showing up.

Ok So looks like user error, currently there are 3 clippers in my scene and neglected to add the 3rd new one to the exclude list of the other 2 clippers. Seems to be working as it should again. :S
