  • DR port number error with deadline - possible to change the vray 3 port?

    Heya Folks!

I'm using deadline and they've got a handy system to manage vray DR render where it'll open and close the spawner at the start and end of each job so if it crashes it can restart it, and max won't have to remain permanently open in case you want to install any bits. My issue is that when I use DR through deadline it's trying to use port 20212 for all the slaves instead of 20204. I'm not sure if 20212 is the old 2.4x port and I'm able to manually edit each server when I use DR the normal way to use 20204 but is it possible edit the port that vray 3 listens on or the default port that vray will try to use as you add in a new DR server?

    Cheers!

I don't think it is possible to change the default port when adding a server, unfortunately. You can modify the port that a server listens to with the VRAY_DR_CONTROLPORT environment variable, or with the -port command-line option for the DR spawner.

20204 is the old V-Ray 2.x port; 20212 is the port for newer V-Ray 3.0 versions.

    Best regards,

Weird, I'm having the opposite issue - the vray 3.x max 2014 spawner is using 20204 for me, it's saying the same in your 3.x docs too. The "-port" option is perfect though to work with deadline!

Yeah I just checked this - If I manually run the vrayspawner on one of our render nodes and then use "netstat -a" in the windows command line to list all ports, it lists port 20204 as being open and not 20212. There's no VRAY_DR_CONTROLPORT environmental variable set on the machine just yet (which I'll do now and that should work) but is there any other reason why vray 3 when starting dr would be defaulting to port 20212? I'm using 3.05.07 from the nightlies.

        Cheers!

        EDIT:

Just checked out the -port option and it's not behaving, mike owens over in thinkbox found the same too. The environment variable works perfectly though so we're sorted, thanks!

Ah ok. I wasn't sure about the -port option; we use it for some NUMA setups and I couldn't figure out if it works on its own. Maybe something to look at.
