  • vray proxys - cpu usage very low

    hello!

i have a question about vray proxies and rendering times. i have following problem:

i have 20 different trees in my scene and each tree is a separate vray proy object with 2000 vertex points in the preview (all the trees together have 10 millions of vertex points when they are imported as normal meshes and the proxy objekts have about 380mb all together)

the trees are just standing in a line in a complete empty scene with gi on (ir map and bruteforce on low settings) but now, when i hit render, my cpu is not rendering at 100% just at about 40% percent - why is that the case? any ideas? what can i do that it is rendering with 100% ussage of my cpu? (i set the dynamic memory limit to 20000mb - i think this is enough?)

(all the proxy objects are just one mesh with a multi sub material and reseted transformations)

    thx for the help!

Which V-Ray version is this? It would be best if you can get me a scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check what may be wrong.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Are your assets on a network drive?

We found net rendering with VRayMeshes to be very taxing on the network, as all the nodes seem to memory map the mesh and continuously access the file over the network. Using scripts to copy all the files to each local render node worked great.

yes, they are stored on a network server... but i discoverd that the problem solves by itself when the amount of rendertime is rising. so if there are more objekts in the scene, the cpu goes up to 100% after some time....
