  • VRayDistance texture

I started wondering why I got so weird results with this texture, and then I did a test and ended up with this:

For some reason every time I try the effect of the texture ends up offset to the side of the object.
    Any idea why this is?

When used with the Displace modifier, the texture can't figure out the correct world-space coordinates of the point - the Displace modifier only passes the local object coordinates. You can avoid the issue by centering the object itself at (0,0,0) and moving the vertices instead where needed.

I'm not sure what you mean. Centering the object being displaced or the target of the distance texture? Can you give an example?

I mean the one that has Displace modifier on it. I will try to get you an example, but it might be faster if you can post the scene from the screenshot above.

I didn't save it but here's another similar one.

Here is the setup mentioned by Vlado: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...0example01.max
1.The pivot point of the object with Displace modifier is aligned to world originin 0,0,0

2.Then in order to move the geometry to the desired location select all the vertexes/polygons and etc and move them instead moving the entire object.

Aaah that makes sense. I should be able to create a script to automate the process to make it more painless. Thanks
