  • nuclear war splotches

    hi,

in some of our max2013 projects that we have to update in 2015/vray3 we get strange big splotches. same file renders perfect in max2013 with vray 2.4
colour and size changes at every rendering.

    using max 2015 sp3 vray 3.10.03 DR

any ideas what to search for ? never seen this in 11 years...

    thanks thomes

    We are having similar.
Are you using the new opacity mapping mode for your leaves? (stochastic I think)

I've seen something similar occur due to there being some Architectural Materials somewhere in the scene from a Revit import.

thanks for your help boys !

all evermotion/itrees/forestpack trees/bushes out of the box... fast look shows all on "normal" opacity mode, no changes to the old files...
but i found one autodesk generic in the scene...
i try out if it´s getting away. if i don´t come back to this thread it´s okai )

          Hello Thomes,

These colorful splotches are very typical, when you have unsupported materials. You can also try V-Ray scene converter, it will convert all scene materials and raytraced shadows to V-Ray ones.

I've also had problems similar to this when using vray materials. The problem however was due to the output amount in a bitmap texture pushed above 1 (I think it was around 2).

Can you send us sample scene and tell us which version of V-Ray do you use with it?

Sorry, not really as I don't have a scene right now that is exhibiting the problem. I "think" the problem was on an old evermotion flower model that had the pedals pushed to be really bright. It was certainly when I was using 2.4 but most likely 3.x also. The problem usually exhibited itself in blurry reflections producing super vivid colors similar to what the OP had (it's a little hard to tell where the color is coming from in the original post images).

                        hi tsvetan,
...hiding the multiscatters and all their dependencies does not make a difference. i have also the render errors.
also disabling embree did not help. at the fourth rendering i got the same errors again

                          Hello,

Thank you for the update, unfortunately even with the latest nightly makes the same problems, but I have some more test to do and hope the reason for this issue will appear

There were some invalid materials in the scene which might be the root of the issue.

The issue seems to disappear once the V-Ray Scene Converter has been executed.
Please right click in the scene viewport, select V-Ray Scene converter:

Then turn on all check-boxes and hit Convert button:

Save as the scene as a new file, run a test render and let us know if there is any improvement or not.
