  • HDRI problem

Hi all, i have a Vray dome light in my scene, but client dont like the hdri image as background, so i create a plane outside of my window and attached a background image(jpeg) given by my client, but when i render the scene, i discover that the background plane has block the vraydome light, what should i do avoid this?

    i am using 3ds max 2014 + vray 2.40.04
    Best regards,

Make the plane to not cast shadows, and also make it invisible to GI?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

That seems about right. Can you post a scene with just the plane, some geometry and the dome light to check what may be wrong?

          Best regards,

                Hi Jackie,

I've rendered the scene that you sent to Vlado with the BG object (background plane) and without it but didn't find any difference in the lighting. Can you send me a simple scene that reproduces the problem at peter.matanov@chaosgroup.com? Because the one you sent is missing textures so I had to override the textured materials and the HDRI that was in the Dome light.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Peter, try rendering with V-Ray 2.40; it worked fine for me in V-Ray 3 too.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

I exclude from dome light and my outside window plane is a V-Ray light material

Tried both 3.1 and 2.40.04 - the renders are identical with and without the BG plane.

                          Isn't that just reflection differences?

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado

                            Object properties >

                            Receive Shadows > OFF
                            Generate Shadows > OFF

                            Vray Properties:
                            Visible in Reflections > OFF
                            Visible to GI > OFF

Or you could just do it in postproduction and use your glass material as a mask.
