  • 3DS crashes during VRay render

All of a sudden, I have been having a lot of problems with 3ds crashing in the middle of a render. It will sometimes get to almost finishing, and it will crash. Sometimes it doesn't get very far. I have tried to tweak all kinds of stuff. This is happening with many different scenes, not just one. The scenes are not that complex. It will sometimes work if I render it at a small resolution. Sometimes it doesn't. I don't think I am running out of RAM. I have 32 GB installed and I have been watching the memory usage and it never comes close to running out. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

That happens quite often if you have materials in the scene that are not compatible with vray - sometimes render is fine and all of a suden the file becomes unrenderable. Good example would be revit geometry with asigned materials like Architectural/Mray ones etc. It is enough to have 1 object with that material to crash render even if that object is not visible.

Do you know of any scripts that can quickly convert any non-VRay material to a VRay material? I quickly searched for one but didn't see one that stood out.

If you right-click in any viewport, there should be an item in the right-click menu that says "V-Ray scene converter" - it will try to convert the most widely used materials.

        Best regards,
